On 28 August 2007, the Chair of the Consultations announced the appointment of the Executive Secretary of the SPRFMO Interim Secretariat, Dr Robin Allen. The appointment was made according to agreed procedures which all participants were invited to be involved in, and overseen by the Chair of the Consultations. Dr Allen will commence as Executive Secretary based in Wellington, New Zealand in late October. Read More...
Participants at the Third International Consultation on the Establishment of the South Pacific RFMO in Reñaca, Chile agreed that pending the establishment of a Secretariat under the Agreement, an Interim Secretariat will be established and hosted by New Zealand. Annex G of the Reñaca Meeting Report provides further detail. It is expected the Interim Secretariat will have an initial staff of three. An Interim Secretariat is expected to be operating by September 2007.
